Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- Vegetable (Unlimited):
- 2 medium turnips (about 3-4 cups when cut)
- Seasonings:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic (minced or powdered)
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon vinegar (e.g., balsamic or white)
Instructions:
1. Prep the Turnips:
- Peel the turnips with a vegetable peeler. Cut them into fry-shaped sticks (about ½-inch wide and 3 inches long). Turnips are firmer than zucchini, making them a great fry substitute.
2. Season the “Fries”:
- In a bowl, toss the turnip sticks with olive oil, garlic, rosemary, and vinegar until well coated.
3. Preheat the Air Fryer:
- Set your air fryer to 400°F (204°C) and preheat for 3 minutes (if required).
4. Cook the Turnip Fries:
- Place the turnip sticks in the air fryer basket in a single layer, avoiding overlap. Cook in batches if needed.
- Air fry at 400°F for 18-20 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through, until they’re golden brown and crispy on the outside.
5. Serve:
- Remove from the air fryer, and enjoy hot as a hearty fry substitute.
Notes:
- Turnips have a slightly peppery flavor and a texture closer to potatoes when cooked, making them an excellent fry stand-in. For a bolder taste, add a splash of horseradish (allowed seasoning) after cooking.
- Try dipping in Primal Kitchen Ketchup or Cucumber Dill Dip!
